Grade 1: Leisurely walks
  • What to Expect: Gentle, steady paths with minimal elevation change per day.  Mild altitude gains.
  • Physical Demands: Suitable for those with basic fitness. Treks can be easy due to gradual elevation profiles, despite the sometimes high starting altitude.
  • Terrain: Wide, maintained trails, negligible exposure, and no technical passages.
  • Example: Dayara Bugyal Trek, Hampta Meadows Trek, Kareri Lake Trek, Panwali Kantha Trek, Miyar Valley Trek
Grade 2: Moderate – Longer, Higher and steeper
  • What to Expect: Longer walking days on more variable terrain: moderate elevation gains, sections of loose stones or minor river crossings, or windy exposed valleys.
  • Physical Demands: Reasonable fitness needed for steady progress at high altitude.
  • Altitude Impact: Walking and sleeping above 4,000m common, but acclimatization and the trek profile (gentle gradients) keep it accessible.
  • Terrain: May include brief steeper climbs or passes up to 4,900m, but usually on good trails.
  • Example: Sham Valley or Shang La Treks
Grade 3: Challenging – High Passes and Remote Valleys and rugged terrain
  • What to Expect: Multi-day treks with significant total elevation gain or high pass crossings, but paths remain non-technical.
  • Physical Demands: Good fitness essential for handling 5–8hr days, several ascents over 4,500–5,000m, and possibly 800–1200m elevation gain on some days.
  • Altitude Impact: Requires solid acclimatization; mild symptoms common in early days.
  • Terrain: Some sections could be steep, rocky, or exposed to weather, but no need for technical equipment.
  • Example: Parang La, Pin Parvati Trek
Grade 4: Strenuous – Technical Trek/ Easy Climb
  • What to Expect: Long days with frequent climbs above 5,000m, demanding passes, and wild, remote terrain.
  • Physical Demands: Excellent fitness, stamina, and prior high-altitude experience needed.
  • Altitude Impact: Multiple nights above 4,500–5,000m; acclimatization is strictly required.
  • Terrain: Potential for scree slopes, snowy, icy and glaciated terrain, mild exposure, and challenging weather; trails may be faint or nonexistent in places.
  • Example: Kang Yatse 2, Dzo Jongo, Yunam Peak, Friendship Peak
Ultralight Expeditions (for experienced trekkers with  high fitness levels)
  • Abilities to carry weight upto 15kgs including lightweight-tent, sleeping bag, mattress, dehydrtated meals, butane cylinder in addition to your personal gear.
