Nag Tibba Trek

A popular trail that is just as beautiful, Nag Tibba is one of the vantage points to observe the higher peaks of Uttarakhand. The trail to the top at slightly more than 3000 meters can be attempted by first-time trekkers looking to do their first himalayan trek or more experienced hikers looking for a short getaway.

Nag Tibba Trek

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Dehradun airport and Drive to Pantwari (1400m). Short Trek to first campsite (2000m).

Arrive at Jolly Grant airport, Dehradun, from where you will be transferred to Pantwari village. Here you will meet the AntHill team and after a short rest and lunch depart for a 30 min drive to the trailhead on jeep. The first night’s campsite would be on a west-facing mountain shoulder bordering the wildlife sanctuary entrance and a dense forest above. This location offers a spectacular setting for an evening bonfire with a spectacular sunset. A nearby Channi (summer settlement) adds to the charm and provides an insight into how the locals use forest resources for their survival. Overnight in tents.

Day 2: Trek to Nag Mandir (2600m)

We walk through a dense oak and rhododendron forest to arrive at Nag Mandir. This well preserved forest is home to a number of animal and bird species and your guide will help you identify these. Located just below Jhandi top, the campsite has magnificent views towards the north and west and sunsets are usually spectacular. Few people are aware that Heinrich Harrer, an acclaimed Austrian mountaineer had traversed Nag Tibba on his way to Tibet while escaping from the British in Dehradun during the World War II. It was here that he had his first meeting with a leopard. His story is documented in the famous novel and film “Seven Years in Tibet”.

Day 3: Trek to Jhandi Top (3000m)

Today, we will trek up to Jhandi top for stunning panoramic views of the greater snow-clad himalayan ranges. It takes 2 hours for the ascent. In the evening, weather permitting, we will light another bon-fire and spend time observing the stars! Overnight in tents.

Day 4: Trek to Shrikot. Drive to Dehradun.

We will make an early start today, to provide for enough opportunity to return to your onward destination. Allow yourself approximately 5-6 hours for the trek back. We take a separate trail and descend through very dense forests with a few clearings, which is typical of north faces of the mountains. Upon arrival at Pantwari, transfer to Dehradun/ Mussoorie. We expect to be in Pantwari by 2pm. In case you wish to take a flight to Delhi, its best to plan it the following morning. Overnight in a hotel in Dehradun (not included in costs)
