Miyar Valley Trek

The Miyar valley is a himalayan wonderland in the Lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh that very few have explored thus far.
Struck by the near-untouched beauty of this land, we decided to keep it a secret, lest this trek too fall prey to conventional large-group adventure tour operators.
So, as a member of the AntHill family we invite you to explore this beautiful region with us. Take a look at these stunning videos we captured earlier this year on a reconnaissance visit!

Day 1: Arrive at Manali and check into your hotel.
It is best to arrive in the day which will give you time to rest after the journey and acclimatize to the higher altitude. Manali is at approximately 1900 meters above sea level
Day 2: Drive Manali to Urgos village via Udaipur (140km, 4-5 hrs)
After an early breakfast drive towards Udaipur using the recently opened Atal Tunnel crossing the Kullu valley to enter the raging waters of the Chandra Bhaga river. Udaipur, located on the banks of this river and on our route is famous for the ancient temples of Trilonknath and Margul. Upon arriving at Urgos hike for 2 hours to arrive at your campsite. Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Trek to Thanpattan (3600m; 5-6 hours)
We continue slightly uphill before crossing  Khanjer village (last village on the trek) where we halt to take in the valley opening up before us. From here we keep walking along the bank of the Miyar river before reaching our beautiful high altitude grassland campsite – Thanpattan. Overnight in twin sharing tents.
Day 4: Thanpattan to Zardong (3900m, 5-6 hours)
Today we will be cross the expansive fields of flowers and spot huge glaciers that dot the valley in the distance. Zardong is another stunning campsite, located just off the bank of the Miyar river. From here you can see towering peaks and the sunset is particularly breathtaking. In the evening we explore the area. Overnight at Zardong camp site.
Day 5: Zardong to Phalpu (snout of glacier; 3950 m, 4-5 hours)
Today we start very early. We will be crossing Kesar Yon Chhap, which means seven holy waters in the local language. The early start will enable us to safely cross the Nalahs, before they swell from the heat of the sun. Further, we trek to our next campsite at Phalpu, which is located on a dry lake bed. Overnight at Phalpu campsite.
Day 6: Phalpu to Challing (7-8 hours)
Today we retrace our steps back to Challing. Mostly occupied by Gaddis that travel from long distances away over multiple passes to get here, the campsite gives us a chance to observe the gaddis go through the day tending to their flock. Overnight at camp.
Day 7: Challing to Shukto (4-5 hours)
Today is our last day of trekking. We reach a campsite before the village and camp there.
Day 8: Drive Manali drive
After a short walk to the roadhead we drive to Manali where we spend a last night before the trip ends.
